The aim of this project was to explore the idea of how an object with an organic design would affect our interactions and relationship with it and how this might make us look at our furniture in a new way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea was to through design evoke the feeling of something that might have grown of itself, like a tree, and then pose the question: if this thing grew of itself, does it have ownership of itself? Would we relate differently to an object if it gives us the feeling that it has life and therefore potentially agency? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet is constructed entirely in massive ash wood. The design sets itself apart with a fluid shape and the placement of the doors hinges are placed as to bring the thoughts to something reminiscent of a ribcage. The cabinet stands at a height of 190cm, in order to meet the user head on and give the feeling of being enveloped when opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a sustainability perspective, the project ponders if the key to managing our consumeristic behaviors better might not be to just try to force ourselves not to want new things, but rather to not feel the need for new things. As we choose things that has a sense of uniqueness and agency, we will not be as willing to switch them out for new things. Therefore, not leaving any room for new consumption and creating lasting furniture to human relationships.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
